Visitors to Loughborough celebrate all the fun of the fair
Loughborough Fair was enjoyed by thousands of visitors as it returned to the town centre for its 802nd year.
The fair, which is operated by Charnwood Borough Council saw over 150 rides and attractions arrive in the town for the four-day spectacle.
The event welcomed back much-loved rides such as the waltzers and dodgems along with a host of food and drink stalls for visitors and residents to enjoy.
Loughborough Fair was officially opened on Wednesday, November 8 by the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Margaret Smidowicz before running until Saturday, November 11.
Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “The fair was once again a huge success and it was great to see it be enjoyed by visitors and Charnwood residents.
“Loughborough Fair is historic and we are so proud of its heritage. It is also important to our local economy with it attracting visitors from not just Charnwood but further afield.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the showman and everyone that works tirelessly to make the fair such a success.”
The first official Charter for the fair was granted to the Lord of the Manor, Hugh le Despencer, in 1221 by King Henry III. The fair was then held on St. Peter’s Day.
