Loughborough Christmas Lights Switch-On

Festivities will begin in Loughborough with Christmas Lights switch-on
Loughborough is preparing for the Christmas lights to be switched-on in the town on Sunday, November 20.

The event, which is organised by Charnwood Borough Council, will include a full day of festive fun with the lights being switched on in the evening.

The Market Place will host a wide range of stalls, food and drink stands and fairground rides from 11am and then from 1pm, a host of talented performers will be appearing on the main stage to entertain the crowds.

There will also be a giant screen above the stage to make sure everyone has a good view.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by the winner of the Council’s Light Up Loughborough competition. The competition was run to find a deserving youngster to flick the big switch on this year’s lights.

The winner will be announced in the week running up to the event.

Local radio company, Fosse 107 will be hosting the stage at the year’s switch-on.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always a fantastic event where families and friends in Loughborough attend to start the countdown to Christmas.

“This year is extra special as we have been on the look out for a special young resident to switch-on the lights in a moment that they will never forget.

“I look forward to seeing the Market Place busy and everyone enjoying the entertainment which will be on offer throughout the day.”

The Sock Gallery in Loughborough Town Hall will be hosting a Christmas Arts & Crafts Fair from 11am-5pm on the day of the Christmas lights switch-on.

The main stage will come alive from 1pm with Sing It Happy opening the performances for the day.

1.00pm – Sing It Happy
1.20pm – St Botolph’s Primary School
1.40pm – Jonezy
2.00pm – Loughborough Schools Foundation Sax and Flutes
2.30pm – Greasepaint Productions
3.00pm – Bright Lights Theatre School
3.20pm – Ruth Chomik
3.50pm – LSU Classical Concert Band
4.15pm – Pauline Quirke Academy
4.30pm – Sarah Clarke
4.50pm – Loughborough Town Hall Panto cast
5.00pm – Christmas Lights Switch-On
5.05pm – LSU Tuxedo Swing Band (until 5.45pm)

Please note that stage times and acts are subject to change.

Princess Elsa, from the popular Disney film, Frozen and Spider-man will be meeting the crowd in the market place from 3pm until 5pm.
