Council awards £23,000 to projects across the borough through Charnwood Community Grants
More than £23,000 has been awarded to groups in Charnwood to support 17 fantastic local projects.
The borough council has awarded Charnwood Community Grants to 12 community groups and organisations to support projects including a foodbank, improvements to a village hall and a get children cycling project.
The Council awards Charnwood Community Grants worth thousands of pounds every year as part of its commitment to create healthy communities.
Cllr Leigh Harper-Davies, the council’s lead member for communities, said: “We are committed to supporting community projects across Charnwood and I am so pleased to see so many of them awarded with funding.
“Each and every one of these groups offers so much in the community and we are determined to support them with the latest round of Charnwood Community Grants.
“I would encourage all groups and projects to check out our grants programme and the criteria to apply for funding in the next round. For successful applications the grants can be a huge help to projects they are delivering in their communities.”
The latest awards include up to £9,000 for Wymeswold Memorial Hall towards a replacement floor. The project in Wymeswold was selected as it provides a facility for the local community and hosts a wide-range of activities.
The floor at the Memorial Hall is in need of replacing with a temporary laminate floor being in place since 2000. The grant will go towards the project which will ensure the health and safety of its users and allow it to continue being a hub for the community.
Loughborough based community group, B-BUDDIES CIC has been granted up to £3,750 towards the “Let’s Get Cycling” scheme. The group works closely with schools and in the local community to get more children cycling. The grant will be used to purchase more bikes and equipment to extend their offer to the community.
New Life Community Church based in Loughborough has been granted up to £3,000 to go towards the running of their foodbank. The organisation is part of the Charnwood Food Poverty Group and has links with other food banks across the area and will use the funding to continue to support families in Charnwood.

£5,000 to Go-Getta CIC towards the Loughborough Youth Motivators project
£1,220 to St Mary’s Grub Club towards summer food and activities
£1,000 to Watermead Junior Parkrun towards equipment
£135 to Watermead Country Park Parkrun towards pacer bibs
£3,500 to Loughborough Wellbeing Centre towards the Wellbeing Café Project Plus Pilot
£4,500 to The Arc Community Hub (Grange Park Centre) towards a youth group
£750 to Sileby Tennis and Pickleball Club towards promoting pickleball in Charnwood
£3,500 to Upstarts Gymnastics Club towards a gym raised pit with soft landing area
£3,000 to Spectrum Sensory Sports UK CIC towards inclusive sports and physical activity sessions
£250 to Nanpantan Ward Residents Group towards the ongoing running of the group
£300 to Thurcaston and Cropston Gardening Club towards an annual craft and produce show
£1,000 to Rectory Wildlife Gardeners towards equipment and tools
£1,500 to Quorn Village CIC towards a community garden
£2,000 to Without Walls Christian Fellowship towards Thrive Singing Cafe
£1,500 to HUB@TheSkofe towards the “Cupboard on the Corner” project.
There are different types of grants available, including Community Grants and Community Facilities Grants. Councillors can also award grants.

Applications for the next round of the Charnwood Community Grants are already being sought. The deadline to apply is September 16, 2022.
Community groups can apply for up to £5,000 worth of funding through a Community Grant and £20,000 (maximum of 50 per cent of the scheme) as a Community Facilities Grant.
