Discover wildlife at free Easter events
Residents in Charnwood can discover local wildlife on their doorstep this Easter.

Charnwood Borough Council’s open spaces partner idverde is working in partnership with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to host a number of free events which will encourage residents to enjoy being amongst nature and find out more about the wildlife in their neighbourhoods.

From a dawn chorus walk at Dishley Pool to a bird ringing demonstration at the historic Outwoods in Loughborough, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Nicola Clarke, community engagement officer for idverde said: “We are pleased to offer these events over the Easter holidays through our partnership with the RSPB. We hope residents will come along to learn about the local wildlife and different habitats in the borough.

“Last year’s Bioblitz event at Dishley Pool proved popular with a range of people attending including families. It’s a wonderful way to engage with nature and discover the vast wildlife species at the open space.

“Everyone is welcome to book onto the events and I would encourage people to take a few hours of their day to enjoy some fresh air and be around nature.”

A Dawn Chorus Walk will take place at Dishley Pool in Loughborough on Wednesday April 12. It’s an early start with people being asked to join the walk from 6am. During the event people will get to learn about the different birds at the open space while enjoying the sounds of a spring morning.

Next up is a Nature Bioblitz at Dishley Pool on Thursday April 13 at 9am. Explore Dishley Pool and identify as many wildlife species as possible. ID guides and equipment will be supplied, or attendees can download wildlife identification apps to their smartphones.

On Sunday April 16, Charnwood Ringing Group will be hosting an informative and educational demonstration at the Outwoods in Loughborough. People will be able to find out more and learn why bird-ringing is carried out. There are two one-hour slots available, and people can either book a space at 8am or 9.30am session.

All ages and abilities are welcome to attend the events.

To book a place on any of the events, please contact Ross Bray, community and nature engagement officer on ross.bray@rspb.org.uk or call 07483096460.
